Montreal: There’s been a salmonella scare in Canada. The Public Health Agency reported 61 cases of salmonella, and 17 people ended up in the hospital. All this is linked to some mini pastries that were recalled.
These pastries, from the Sweet Cream brand, were sold in bakeries, hotels, and even hospitals. They were also served at catered events. So, if you’ve had them, be cautious.
Most cases are in Quebec, with 33 reported. Ontario has 21, British Columbia has four, Alberta has two, and New Brunswick has one. The ages of those affected range from three to 88 years old, and about 61% are women.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has recalled these pastries. They come in four-kilogram boxes and one-kilogram trays, with best before dates stretching into late 2025.
People started getting sick between late September and mid-December. Many reported eating these pastries at catered events or places where they were served.
Salmonella can cause fever, headaches, and stomach issues. It’s usually mild for healthy folks but can be serious for kids, pregnant women, and the elderly.
So, if you have any of these pastries, it’s best to toss them out. Stay safe and keep an eye on your health!
