Hey, guess what’s happening in Calgary? They started knocking down Eau Claire Market this week. People who live nearby are a bit worried.

It’s apparently gotten really loud, especially at night. Big trucks are delivering stuff, which makes it worse. Some people don’t mind the noise too much, saying the work usually stops by evening. However, they are concerned about safety because lots of trucks share the space with walkers.

A local shop owner is upset too because her sales have gone down during the demolition. The area is fenced off, causing less foot traffic and fewer customers visiting her store.

The Green Line train project no longer uses that area. Another business owner is worried about future plans since no one knows what they’ll build there later.

Eau Claire Market opened way back in 1993. It once had an arcade and a market. Magicians and an IMAX theatre were also there.

The city took over the property last May. They even threw it a farewell party. The demolition should finish around June.
