Beirut: Back in August 2020, a massive explosion rocked the city, leaving devastation in its wake. Nadim Hamoud, who owned several restaurants there, faced a tough decision. Instead of rebuilding in Beirut, he chose to relocate to Canada, bringing his team along to start fresh in Montreal with a new restaurant called Mezzmiz.

Hamoud explained that seeing his businesses destroyed was heartbreaking. He thought it would be better for his staff and their families to settle in a stable environment while Lebanon went through its rebuilding phase. His restaurants in Beirut had offered a variety of cuisines, from gourmet burgers to Italian pizza, but the explosion wiped out much of the downtown area.

One constant in Hamoud’s journey has been his executive chef, Dory Masri. Dory shared that moving to Montreal was a smooth transition for him, as he had previously lived in the UK. The welcoming Arab community in Montreal made it feel like home.

At Mezzmiz, Hamoud aims to share more than just delicious Lebanese food. He wants to bring the warmth and hospitality of Lebanon to his new customers. He believes that providing an exceptional dining experience is just as important as the food itself. The staff is friendly, and guests often compliment the kitchen on their outstanding service.

Hamoud’s secret weapon is his nine-year-old daughter, Sama, who handles all the restaurant’s social media. She loves being in front of the camera and has a natural talent for creating engaging content.
