Montreal: A Flair Airlines Boeing 737 Max had quite the scare recently. It was all set to land at Montreal-Trudeau International Airport when the crew had to pull up at the last minute. Why? A private jet was still on the runway, causing a bit of a panic.

This happened just hours before a tragic incident at Reagan Washington National Airport, where a military helicopter collided with a passenger jet, resulting in 67 fatalities. Talk about a rough day for aviation!

Officials from Flair Airlines and the Transportation Safety Board of Canada confirmed the Montreal incident. They assured everyone that it wasn’t a “near-miss” and that passengers were never in real danger.

In fact, they emphasized that the way everything was handled showed how well Canada’s aviation safety system works. No risk of collision, according to NAV Canada spokesperson Maryam Amini.

Flight 1101 was coming in from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and was on its final approach when the unexpected happened. A Bombardier Challenger 3500 corporate jet was still on the tarmac, which led to the Flair crew having to abort the landing.

They powered up the engines and performed a “go-around,” which is a standard procedure in such situations. Once the other jet cleared the area, they landed safely.

The Flair crew followed the air traffic controllers’ instructions perfectly. Sometimes, things just take longer than expected, and that’s what happened here.

According to TSB’s Nic Falco, there was no safety compromise, and everything was done according to standard operating procedures. So, while it was a bit of a nail-biter for the passengers, they were in good hands.

Flair Airlines, based in Edmonton, operates a fleet of Boeing 737 Max jets and is known for its low-cost flights. So, while this incident was alarming, it seems like the system worked as it should.
