Marcel Bonin, a beloved former Canadiens player, has passed away at 93, leaving behind cherished memories and a remarkable legacy in hockey.
Bonin was known as the “bear of Joliette.” He won his first Stanley Cup in 1955 with the Detroit Red Wings. After a brief time with the Boston Bruins, he joined the Canadiens. He won three more Stanley Cups with them from 1958 to 1960.
The Canadiens honored him, saying he was one of the great winners of his time. Bonin scored 97 goals in 454 games. Sadly, he had to retire in 1962 after spine surgery.
In April 2024, Joliette recognized his contributions with a medal. He wasn’t just a player; he also served as a police officer and worked in schools to help kids with drug issues. Bonin’s legacy will surely live on in the hearts of many.
