This story is about a woman losing her beloved dog. Her ex-partner caused the dog’s death. Randeep Ghataura was found guilty in October 2024. The charge was killing or injuring an animal.

He received his sentence on Friday. Ghataura will spend four months in jail. He also got three years of probation. He cannot own animals for 20 years. He must pay for the dog’s vet bill.

Judge Gordon called his actions cruel. He hit the small dog with a shoe. The chihuahua weighed less than nine pounds. Then, he left her alone for hours. The defense wanted a lighter sentence.

The Crown wanted eight months in jail. They also wanted the same probation and ban. Jeannie Chiasson owned a chihuahua, Tacori. She dated Ghataura about five years ago. They had broken up.

Ghataura went to Chiasson’s to drop things off. She wasn’t home, but he entered anyhow. Then, he called and said Tacori acted strange. He admitted he “maybe” hit her with a shoe.

Chiasson rushed home to her dog. She found Tacori hunched and with red eyes. The vet said she was distressed. They couldn’t save the poor dog. Tacori had to be euthanized.

Chiasson read a statement in court. Her statement was also shared outside. She never thought she would face such evil. The last night, she asked Tacori for a kiss. The dog licked her nose.

Then, Tacori’s head fell into her hand. She died at that moment. Chiasson didn’t want to live after that. She went to therapy. Doctors prescribed antidepressants for her. These made her feel bad.

Chiasson said this will affect her forever. However, she chose to be a survivor. She knows Tacori is proud of her fight. Surviving let her tell Tacori’s story.

Chiasson cried after the verdict. Justice happened, she declared. She was shocked by Ghataura’s lack of remorse. He only cared about tight handcuffs. She fought hard for Tacori’s justice. Many lawyers doubted she could win. Seeing the handcuffs felt meaningful. Finally, someone believed and fought for Tacori.
