Drivers from La Montréalaise are on strike, affecting school bus services for CSSDM students. Negotiations are ongoing.
Montreal: So, here’s the scoop. As of Monday morning, the drivers from Autobus La Montréalaise decided to go on an unlimited general strike. This is linked to Transport scolaire Sogesco.
The union behind this, the Syndicat des travailleurs et travailleurs des Autobus La Montréalaise-CSN Division Montréal, is really pushing for better conditions. They had a big meeting back on October 28, 2024, where 95% of the members agreed to take action if needed.
They set the strike date for January 20 during a meeting on January 8. Just last Friday, the union members turned down the latest offer from their employer by a whopping 70%!
CityNews got in touch with the union, and they mentioned that this strike is only affecting students from the Centre de services scolaire de Montréal (CSSDM). The CSSDM confirmed that all 17 La Montréalaise bus routes are on strike indefinitely.
They also said that negotiations are still happening. They reached out to parents on Saturday and sent a notification through the Mtransport app this morning.
It’s worth noting that the STTALM-CSN-DM union has about 30 members who haven’t had a contract since June 30, 2023. So, it’s a pretty tense situation right now!
