Lachine’s mayor steps back from the leadership race, endorsing Luc Rabouin for the role, citing shared visions for the city’s future.
Lachine: So, Maja Vodanovic, the mayor of Lachine, has decided to pull out of the Projet Montréal leadership race. Instead, she’s throwing her support behind Luc Rabouin, who’s the borough mayor of Plateau-Mont-Royal.
She shared her thoughts on Facebook, saying Rabouin’s experience and deep understanding of Montreal make him the right choice for the challenges ahead. It sounds like they really see eye to eye on what the city needs moving forward.
With her exit, the race is now down to five candidates. We’ve got Gracia Kasoki Katahwa from Côte-des-Neiges–NDG, Laurence Lavigne Lalonde from Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension, former Projet Montréal president Guedwig Bernier, and city councillor Ericka Alneus all in the mix.
The official race kicks off on February 3, which means debates and campaigning are just around the corner. This all follows Mayor Valérie Plante’s announcement in October that she wouldn’t be running for re-election.
Mark your calendars for March 15, because that’s when we’ll find out who will take over in the municipal elections happening on November 2. Meanwhile, the Official Opposition party, Ensemble Montréal, is still figuring out their leadership race. They had planned to start by December 15 but pushed it back to give candidates more time. No word yet on when that will kick off.
