Lewis Irving shines with a silver medal at the World Cup in Quebec, marking a triumphant return to the podium after two years.
The gold went to China’s Qi Guangpu with a score of 124.00, while Christopher Lillis from the U.S. took bronze with 85.40. It’s been a while since Irving stood on the podium, the last time being in Ruka, Finland, back in December 2022.
Irving went for a tough quintuple-twist jump, and even though he fell on the landing, it was a bold move that paid off. He said, “It feels great. We took a risk, went all-in with a quintuple twist in the super final.” He was all about going for gold, not just settling for second or third.
Despite the fall, his score was enough to clinch that silver medal in Lac-Beauport, just a short drive from his hometown. After battling injuries for two years, this win felt especially sweet for him. “Last year was pretty tough,” he shared, “I’m really happy to get a podium this early in the season.”
Looking ahead, Irving has his eyes set on the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics. He knows that another podium finish could secure his spot. “One step down, and I’ll go for the second tomorrow,” he said, clearly motivated.
In other news, Alexandre Duchaine from Quebec City finished fifth, while Marion Thenault from Sherbrooke just missed the final in women’s aerials, placing 13th. She was feeling the sting of disappointment, especially after battling a virus and a knee injury. But she’ll have more chances to qualify later in the season.
