Montreal: A 20-year-old man named Muhammad Shahzeb Khan was arrested in Quebec. He’s accused of planning a mass shooting in New York. The FBI says he wanted to attack a Jewish centre in Brooklyn.

Khan was living near Toronto before his arrest. He appeared in court but didn’t say much. He just nodded when the judge mentioned his upcoming extradition hearing on February 20.

He was caught near the U.S. border in September. The FBI had been watching him for months after an informant raised concerns about his social media activity.

Documents reveal Khan allegedly wanted to create an ISIS cell to target Jewish people. He planned the attack for October 7, 2024, the anniversary of the Hamas attacks on Israel.

Khan reportedly used encrypted apps to communicate with others. He told undercover agents to gather weapons and gear for the attack, saying, “We are going to NYC to slaughter them.”

FBI officials mentioned they disrupted several plots in the U.S. last year, including Khan’s. He faces serious charges for trying to support a foreign terrorist group.

Interestingly, Khan was seeking refugee status in Canada. His landlord said he wasn’t actually studying, just staying home most of the time.

His lawyer believes Khan might have been tricked into these actions. He’s waiting to see more evidence to build his case.
