Ottawa is stepping up with $19.7 million to help Quebec exporters tackle potential U.S. tariffs and expand their markets
Montreal: So, Ottawa’s got some good news for Quebec exporters. They’re putting nearly $20 million on the table to help them out with those pesky U.S. tariffs looming over them.
This funding is aimed at ORPEX, which is all about helping Quebec businesses that haven’t exported yet or want to break into new markets. It’s a smart move to help them grow and innovate.
Over the next three years, they’ll be dishing out $19.7 million. A big chunk, about $16.1 million, is set to boost export activities. The rest, around $3.6 million, will support innovation projects for small and medium-sized businesses.
The announcement came from Soraya Martinez Ferrada, the federal minister for Quebec’s Economic Development Agency, in Montreal. She was joined by Industry Minister François-Philippe Champagne.
Martinez Ferrada highlighted how this funding will give Quebec businesses the tools they need to thrive, especially with the current market challenges.
This news comes just before the Trump administration is expected to slap a 25% tariff on Canadian imports, which could really shake things up for the economy.
Nadine Brassard, president of Commerce International Québec, pointed out that diversifying export markets is crucial. Just tapping into one new market can boost a business’s export value significantly.
ORPEX is there to help businesses figure out their export potential, create plans, and learn about international markets. It’s all about making sure they’re ready to take on the world!
