Quebec: The Public Health Agency of Canada has reported a total of 61 salmonella cases across the country. Out of these, 33 cases are from Quebec alone. Some people even needed hospitalization.

These illnesses are linked to Sweet Cream brand mini pastries that were recalled. The pastries were sent to various places like bakeries, hospitals, and restaurants.

People started getting sick from late September to mid-December. Many of those affected had eaten the pastries at catered events or similar venues.

The age range of those who got sick is pretty wide, from just three years old to 88. Interestingly, about 61% of the cases are women.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has issued a recall for specific boxes and trays of these pastries, with best-before dates stretching into late 2025.

For most healthy folks, salmonella can cause temporary issues like fever and stomach cramps. But it can be more serious for young kids, pregnant women, and the elderly.

Officials are still investigating, so more cases might pop up as they track the outbreak. It takes time for illnesses to be reported after someone gets sick.

On a related note, there’s also been a recall of certain egg brands due to salmonella concerns, but thankfully, no illnesses have been reported from that yet.
