Montreal: This week, a preliminary hearing is underway for Peter Nygard, the former fashion mogul. He’s facing some serious charges, including sexual assault.

Nygard, who used to run a big clothing company, is accused of one count of sexual assault and another for forcible confinement. These incidents reportedly happened in Quebec between late 1997 and mid-1998.

Back in March 2022, prosecutors charged him, but details about the alleged victim and the evidence are under a publication ban, so we can’t know everything just yet.

At 83, Nygard is attending the hearing remotely from a federal facility in Ontario, where he’s currently serving time.

He was sentenced to 11 years in prison last September after being found guilty of four counts of sexual assault in Toronto related to offenses from the ’80s to the mid-2000s.

On top of that, he’s facing more charges in Manitoba, and U.S. authorities are looking to extradite him over a nine-count indictment in New York. This indictment claims he was involved in some pretty serious illegal activities, including trafficking women and underage girls.

Nygard has denied all the allegations and is appealing his convictions and sentence in Ontario.
