Winnipeg: A blast of Arctic air is on its way. This weekend, Eastern Canada will feel the chill from a polar vortex. It’s going to be cold, really cold.

Meteorologist Anthony Farnell says this cold snap will hit hard. Expect temperatures to drop significantly, starting this weekend and lasting into next week.

Right now, the Prairies are already feeling the effects. Winnipeg has a blizzard warning, and temperatures will be around -20°C. Wind chills could dip to -40°C in places like Saskatoon and Regina.

As the cold front moves, southern Ontario and Quebec might see some rain or wet snow on Saturday. By Sunday night, it’ll likely turn to snow in the Maritimes.

Farnell mentioned that a lobe of frigid air from Siberia will swing down, bringing some of the coldest daytime highs we’ve seen in years for southern Ontario.

Environment Canada warns folks in these areas to prepare for very cold conditions from Sunday to Wednesday. They say temperatures could be colder than what we’ve experienced in recent years.

Farnell also reminded everyone that frostbite can happen quickly on exposed skin. Staying dry is key to staying warm.

The coldest days will be Monday and Tuesday, but it should start to warm up a bit later next week. Still, expect daytime highs well below zero.

Interestingly, this cold snap will stretch unusually far south. U.S. states near the Gulf Coast, from Texas to Florida, might see snow and ice, which could even affect Florida’s citrus crops.

In fact, Donald Trump’s inauguration in Washington D.C. will be the coldest in 40 years, with wind chills in the minus teens. They’re even moving it indoors, which hasn’t happened since 1985.

So, bundle up and stay warm! It looks like we’re in for a chilly ride.
