Montreal: A long-vacant spot near downtown is finally getting some love. The Îlot Voyageur Sud site is set to be developed into a mix of community and student housing.

Located at de Maisonneuve Boulevard and Berri Street, this project will bring over 1,000 housing units to the area, with more than half being off-market options. Sounds promising, right?

The City of Montreal has given the green light to a joint proposal from UTILE and Mondev, so things are moving forward. They’re now working on the details of the sale.

Mayor Valérie Plante highlighted that this project is a great way to tackle the housing crisis in the city center. It’s all about building more affordable options for everyone.

Benoir Dorais, who’s involved in the project, mentioned that it’s a fantastic chance to revitalize the neighborhood. It’s not just about housing; it’s about creating a vibrant community.

The plan includes a building that will rise between 14 to 20 stories, featuring 430 student units, 200 non-profit housing units, and some commercial spaces on the ground floor. A real win-win!

Plus, the site is super convenient, being close to public transport, shops, and local schools. It’s all shaping up to be a great addition to the area.
