Brossard: A woman named Levana Ballouz, previously known as Mohamad Al Ballouz, was found guilty of a horrific crime. She killed her partner and their two young sons back in 2022.

The jury’s decision came down in December 2024, and she was sentenced to life in prison. That means no chance of parole for 25 years. It’s a tough sentence for a tragic situation.

The court described the violence as extreme, calling it a “femicide.” The judge highlighted the brutal way her partner was killed, which really paints a grim picture of the crime.

Ballouz was convicted of first-degree murder for the deaths of her sons, which automatically means life without parole for 25 years. For her partner’s murder, she got a second-degree charge, with a chance for parole in 20 years.

Interestingly, even though she identifies as a woman, she’s currently in a men’s prison. She requested to be moved to a women’s facility, but that hasn’t happened yet.

The Correctional Service of Canada said they assess each request individually, considering safety and health concerns. It’s a complicated situation, and they have to balance everything carefully.

This case has really shocked the community, and it’s a reminder of the serious issues surrounding domestic violence.
