Three people face charges for months of package thefts in northeast Winnipeg. Project Thrifties ends crime spree.
Last November, police received theft reports involving delivery packages. This increase happened in the Transcona area. Police then started an investigation, called Project Thrifties. They found nine package thefts that occurred from August 2024 to January 2025. All but one theft were in Transcona.
The police estimated the worth of the stolen packages to be between $10 and $200.
A 35-year-old Winnipeg woman faces charges. She has seven counts of theft under $5,000 and failed to attend court. Police think she stole seven packages from August to December.
A 47-year-old man and another 35-year-old woman were also charged. Their charges relate to separate package thefts from a home and business. The thefts happened in early December and January.
The arrested people know each other through the drug subculture. Police say they are linked to retail theft, including the parcel thefts. They did not know their victims, and nobody was hurt during the thefts.
Police shut down a problem residence on Larche Crescent. They said the charged people visited this home regularly.
