Verdun is making it easier for locals to enjoy winter fun with free access to outdoor gear through a new app initiative
Verdun: Winter is here, and one Montreal borough is stepping up to help folks enjoy the outdoors. We all know that getting winter gear can be pricey, right? So, Verdun has launched a cool initiative to lend a hand.
With their new app, residents can borrow skates and snowshoes for free, for up to three hours. It’s called BoxUp, and it’s pretty neat!
The BoxUp station is set up in Parc de la Fontaine, right by the skateboard ramp. You’ll find lockers filled with gear just waiting for you.
Céline-Audrey Beauregard, a borough councillor, shared that this project is all about making outdoor activities accessible. It’s free, and you don’t have to travel far to have fun.
They’ve got skates and snowshoes available now, and they plan to switch things up for summer activities too. How great is that?
To borrow gear, just download the BoxUp app, create a profile, and pick a locker. It’s super easy! You return the gear by putting it back in the locker and snapping a photo through the glass.
Beauregard mentioned that this initiative is part of a larger project aimed at creating a network of equipment lending centers across Quebec. It’s all about getting people moving and enjoying their community.
Residents are loving the idea. One mom said it’s a lifesaver for keeping kids active in winter. Another guy thinks it’s fantastic for getting everyone outside.
Beauregard hopes this project will inspire more people to explore local parks and enjoy the great outdoors. It’s all about community and making sure everyone has access to fun activities.
So, if you’re in Verdun, check out BoxUp and get ready for some winter fun!
